Connecting Your Home to Fiber-Optic Internet: What to Expect

Our team of Fiber Installation Technicians are helping families like yours enjoy extraordinary internet speed and reliability with FastBridge Fiber. Look around your community! We are working hard to connect homes throughout your area to our new, 100% fiber-optic network. You can even get fiber internet in an apartment!

Fiber-optic internet uses ultra-thin fiberglass strands to transmit high-speed data through underground cables or aerial wires.

Our fiber-optic networks are installed via an underground cable or aerially from a nearby utility pole, depending on the network engineering design of your neighborhood. We’ve engineered the installation process to be fast and easy. Our professional technicians will use their expertise to determine placement of the line and equipment to optimize your internet performance and Wi-Fi coverage.

In just a few hours, you’ll be able to surf the net, play your favorite video game, or stream a movie with the best experience possible.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to our installation process so you know what to expect:

Step 1: Consultation

Upon arrival, your technician will assess the home for optimal fiber equipment placement for the best internet experience possible. They’ll review their recommendations with you prior to starting work.

Step 2:  Connecting your home to the fiber network

The technician pulls and places the fiber, either from the utility pole or the underground box located in the utility easement, to the designated entry point on your home. Next, a Network Interface Device, or NID (4×7”), is affixed to the side of the home, and the fiber is connected.

Step 3: Bringing the fiber to your home

Next, the fiber will be threaded through an existing hole, if possible, and brought inside the home. That fiber will be plugged into a thoughtfully placed integrated gateway device. This device converts the light from the fiber-optic cable into ethernet, and powers your Wi-Fi network.

Step 4: Setting up your Wi-Fi network

Your technician will set up the gateway device, then they will assist in connecting some of your devices to the network. If you select the same Wi-Fi network name and password you currently use, most devices will reconnect on their own. Once this step is complete your internet service will be active!

Step 5: Burying the drop fiber

Where the network is laid underground, we will return to bury the fiber as soon as possible after your installation is complete. You don’t need to be home for this step and if service is disrupted it will likely be momentary.

That’s all it takes to connect your home to our lightning-fast fiber network! The installation process is a breeze, and we’re confident that you’ll be happy with your new future-proof internet service too.
