What is the Internet?
When people think of the “Internet”, it’s often confused with terms like Wi-Fi or even the World Wide Web. The Internet is actually the big picture. It’s the massive network of cables, satellites, servers, and fiber lines that connect people all around the world. It’s what makes things like email, streaming, video calls, and online shopping possible.
Wi-Fi and the World Wide Web often get confused with the Internet, but they’re just pieces of the puzzle. Wi-Fi is simply the wireless signal that connects your phone, laptop, or TV to your router, and your router connects to your Internet service provider (that’s us). Without an Internet service provider, Wi-Fi is just a signal with nowhere to go.
The World Wide Web, on the other hand, is the collection of websites you can visit once you’re connected to the Internet. It’s one of the most popular ways we use the Internet, but it’s not the Internet itself.
So, to keep it simple:
- The Internet is the global network.
- Wi-Fi is how your devices hop on that network.
- The Web is just one of the things you use the Internet for.
