We know how frustrating it can be to see neighbors just down the block enjoying high-speed fiber internet while your address isn’t serviceable. You might be asking yourself, “Why them and not me?” It’s a great question, and we want to share a bit more about what goes into building out our network and why coverage sometimes stops short.
The Realities Behind Fiber Expansion
Our mission is to expand fast, reliable internet to as many homes as possible. But delivering fiber isn’t as simple as flipping a switch. There are a number of real-world factors that can delay or sometimes prevent us from reaching certain homes.
Permitting & Local Regulations
Before we can begin construction in an area, we often need approvals from municipalities or utility companies. In some cases, these permits take longer than expected, or are denied entirely, which can delay or block expansion in that location.
Complex Engineering Challenges
Certain neighborhoods require more intricate construction due to terrain, road layouts, or utility access. Narrow streets, dense trees, distance between homes, lot sizes, and well as existing infrastructure, like utility poles, can all present engineering obstacles that may push a project further down the line or make bringing fiber to some homes unfeasible altogether.
What If My Home Isn’t Getting Service?
In some cases, these challenges mean that a particular home, or even a small section of a neighborhood, may not be included in our current or future network. We understand how disappointing this can be, and we never make these decisions lightly.
While it’s always our goal to reach as many homes as possible, there are times when the cost, engineering complexity, or legal barriers make it unsustainable for us to move forward with service to a specific address.
That said, our network is constantly evolving. We frequently revisit areas and explore new opportunities to expand, especially as technology and infrastructure changes, or as local regulations shift.
Here’s What You Can Do
If your home isn’t currently eligible, we still want to hear from you. Submitting your address on our website helps us track interest and prioritize future expansion opportunities. The more demand we see in an area, the more likely we are to explore options for bringing service there!
